In men’s tumbling Canadian champion Alex Seifert of Calgary won a third career World Cup medal in a tough international field.
Seifert earned the bronze behind gold medal winner Kalon Ludvigson of the United States and runnerup Mikhail Kostyanov of Russia.
Ludvigson scored 75.50 well ahead of Kostyanov with 73.70 points and Seifert at 72.40.
“Every medal you get gives you a boost of confidence,” and with this one I really felt I earned it,” said Seifert, who is also gearing up for the 2011 world championships.
“At the world championships you’ve got to give everything you’ve got to give, it’s go big or go home,” said Seifert who is planning to add a triple somsersault and a double twisting double somersault to his already impressive repertoire at the worlds.
In other Canadian results on Saturday, brothers Kyle and Keegan Soehn of Red Deer, Alta., teamed up in the synchro competition for 7th spot in the final and on the women’s side Emily Smith of Burlington, Ont, and Katelyn Verschoor of Brantford, Ont., were fifth and sixth in women’s tumbling.
