Calgary’s Anysia Unick leads Canadian team at WOGA Classic

Anysia Unick of Calgary was the top Canadian at the WOGA Classic on Saturday, placing fifth all around in the senior international competition with Madeline Gardiner of Cambridge Ont., right behind in sixth place and Bianca Dancase-Giamattisto of Montreal in 10th.
Marine Brevet, the reigning national champion of France, topped the field of 11 competitors with a score of 55.25 to hold off the challenge from second place finisher Brandie Jay of the United States.
Brevet took first on beam (14.35) and recorded top three finishes on all events.
Unick, who posted the best score on floor, (13.6) and tied for third on uneven bars (13.750), scored 53.550 in the all around.
In the junior competition, Katelyn Ohashi, led a U.S. medal sweep with a winning total of 56.850 points.
Victoria Moors of Cambridge, Ont., faltered on her double double tuck on floor and had a low beam score (13.1) to place fifth in the field of 15 gymnasts.
