OSIJECK, Croatia -- Calgary’s Nathan Gafuik and Brittany Rogers of Coquitlam, B.C. both won silvers medals on the weekend at the Osikek Challenger Cup World Cup gymnastics meet.

Gafuik, who struggled at the recent world championships, bounced back in his top event, placing second on high bar in a tight battle for medals.

Xuezhang Chen of China took the gold with a score of 15.325 followed by Gafuik with 15.150 points and Marijo Moznik  of Croatia third at 15.100.

Gafuik also competed in two other event finals, placing fourth on vault and parallel bars.

In the women’s competition, Rogers qualified for all four event finals and capped an impressive showing at her first full competition in almost two years with a silver medal on vault.

Valeriia Maksiuta of Israel won gold and Gabriela Janik of Poland took the bronze.

“My first international meet in 19 months that I did all four events and the first time I made all four and walked away healthy,” said Rogers in a message on Twitter.

Rogers, who has been been coming back from a serious ankle injury, did not qualify for Canada’s world championship team this year but still has her sights set ultimately on winning a berth at the 2012 Olympics next summer in London.

In the other event finals Rogers placed fourth on uneven bars, fifth on floor and eighth on beam.

In other Canadian results, Bianca Dancose-Giambattisto of Montreal placed fifth in the women’s uneven bars final, and Ian Galvan of Calgary, just missed the vault final with a ninth-place finish.
