  • Artistic

    • Women's Artistic
    • Men's Artistic

    Artistic gymnastics is an extremely demanding discipline based upon an athlete’s precision and agility. Men and women are judged within their own respective category and use a range of apparatuses to perform their stunning routines.

    • Judging criteria varies and is based upon: execution, creativity and difficulty of routine, and the way they utilize their apparatus.
    • Deductions are made for improper footing and landing, lengthy pauses, falls, poor technique.

    Men’s Artistic

    • Vault

      Launching off a spring board, pushing off a vault and landing a flip, twist, or somersault with tight body position.

    • Rings

      An athlete performs swings and demonstrates strength elements while keeping the rings as still as possible.

    • Parallel Bars

      A series of swings above and below two level bars finishing with a smooth release and dismount.

    • High Bar

      On a single bar, gymnasts demonstrate swing and release skills whilst changing direction; finishing with an impressive dismount.

    • Pommel Horse

      Gymnasts maneuver around a vault like narrow box with handles using coordination, strength, and balance.

    • Floor

      A tumbling acrobatic series and demonstration of strength and balance across the entire floor area.

    • Vault

      Gymnasts fly through the air executing precise twists and somersaults over a table shaped structure.

    • Uneven Bars

      Continuous movement between two raised bars of uneven height resulting in a series of swings, twists, somersaults and handstands.

    • Balance Beam

      Rhythmic and fluid, dance-like movements are performed across the length of a narrow beam.

    • Floor

      Creative dance elements and tumbling maneuvers performed to music utilizing entire floor space.

    Women’s Artistic

  • Trampoline & Tumbling

    • T & T

    Trampoline & Tumbling (T&T) conjures images of precise dismounts and stunning twists. T&T gymnasts exemplify aerial speed and power in their dynamic routines.

    Subdisciplines

    • Individual trampoline

      A gymnast performs both a compulsory and voluntary routine.

    • Synchronized Trampoline

      Two gymnasts mirror a routine together while performing on separate trampolines.

    • Double mini trampoline

      A gymnast performs two skills on a small trampoline before landing on a mat for the perfect stick landing.

    • Power tumbling

      Similar to Artistic gymnastics floor routines; innovation of sprung floor allows for higher, more frequent tumbling.

  • Rhythmic

    Rhythmic gymnastics is a discipline focused on the aesthetic of a female gymnast's routine using a ball, ribbon, hoop, clubs, and rope. For more information, visit the provincial governing body's site, Rhythmic Gymnastics Alberta.

     

    Cheerleading is a sport that incorporates a number of exciting athletic and artistic elements such as dance, gymnastics, acrobatic stunting and tosses. Cheerleaders develop agility, strength, stamina, rhythmic movement and build an appreciation for physical fitness. There is no second string in cheerleading. Each athlete is critical and an active contributor to their team, its goals and achievements. The Alberta Cheerleading Association is committed to developing standardized safety regulations for use in all our schools, clubs, organizations, clinics and competitions; acting as a regulating body for the sport of cheerleading in Alberta.
