Julie Warnock retires
March 24, 2011
It was the end of an era for the Airdrie Edge Gymnastics Club as longtime athlete Julie Warnock retired at the age of 27 after 13 1/2 years of training.
Julie joined the Edge team in 1997 at the age of 13 1/2. She has literally spent half her life training in Airdrie. In around 9000 hrs. of in-gym training she has accomplished some incredible things:
· She is the only woman in Canada to have competed Senior in all three events of Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini (with Synchro it's all 4 events).
· She has been ranked on Canada's Senior National team since 2002. In that time she has competed in 5 World Championships (2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2010). She made finals (top 8) in 4 of the 5 and won Silver in 2007.
· Julie holds two current World Records for Women's DMT.
o The hardest single pass ever performed. Half-in Full-out Straight to Full-in Full-out Straight (8.4 DD value).
o The hardest 4 pass combined ever performed (29.6 DD value):
⁃ Half-out Pike to Double Full-out Straight (7.2 DD value).
⁃ Half-out Straight to Full-out Straight (6.8 DD value).
⁃ Rudi-out Pike to Full-in Full-out Tuck (7.2 DD value).
⁃ Half-in Full-out Straight to Full-in Full-out Straight (8.4 DD value).
· Julie has competed for Canada on every continent of the World (except Antarctica) and in 14 countries (Canada, USA, Argentina, Great Britain, France, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Russia, Poland, South Africa, Taiwan, and Australia).
Julie is an incredible young woman and has been an amazing positive influence to the sport in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada and indeed the World. We are going to miss her immensely but look forward to seeing her regularly as she gives back to the sport she loves through judging.
