Athletes, coaches, judges, and parents all enjoyed themselves in sunny, beautiful Jasper, over the past weekend.  Jasper Gymnastics Club hosted the Northern Zone Championships for P1-P3 athletes, and then on Sunday, they welcomed Pre Novice, P5, and National level athletes from all over the province who were vying for spots on Team Alberta to attend Western Canadian Championships to be held later in April.

For the 46 P1 athletes, this event was their last sanctioned event of the season.  For the 75 P2 and P3 athletes, the competition was fierce as the top 12 finishers in four age groups qualify to advance to the season’s culminating Provincial Championships, upcoming April 15-17 in Lethbridge, AB.

The trials to Westerns was one of the best attended trials Alberta has seen in a while.  47 P5, 18 Pre Novice, and 21 National athletes were competing for a chance to represent Alberta on home turf when Grande Prairie hosts the four western provinces and territories at Western Canadian Championships, April 28 – May 1st. The teams were chosen, official team coaches were named, brand new team Alberta bodysuits and teamwear was fitted, and everyone is excited to represent Alberta!
