Fourteen-year old Victoria Moors of Cambridge, Ont., won three of four events en route to the all around gold medal Saturday at the L’International Gymnix Junior Cup. Moors, who also won the all around title at Elite Canada in December, placed first on floor, beam and vault and was 5th on uneven for a total score of 55.925. Sabrina Gill of Oakville, Ont., also had a strong meet to finish second all around with 54.925 points. Natalie Vaculik of Oshawa was third at 53.125.

“I had a good feeling that everything was going to go well,” said Moors. “I was really pleased with my floor routine. I have a new tumbling line and I hit on every skill.”

Moors floor routine includes a difficult move known as a double back salto with two twists that no other female gymnast in Canada performs at either the junior or senior level. Canadian women’s program director Lise Gosselin Simard of Gatineau, Que., described Moor’s overall performance as “absolutely fabulous.”

“This shows that she can be a contender for the 2012 Olympic team,” said Gosselin-Simard. “She has some very difficult content in her routines.”

Moors also led one of two Canadian squads to the gold medal in the Junior Cup team event with a score of 163.975. Russia was second with 158.925 points and Great Britain third at 152.800. Other members of the winning Canadian team were Gill, Vaculik and Jordyn Pedersen of Mississauga.

A second Canadian consisting of Brianna Clark of Montreal, Elise Bolger of Oakville, Ont., and Maegan Chant of Waterdown, Ont., finished fourth in the six team competition. The competition concludes on Sunday with event finals in both junior and senior competitions.
