Insurance Coverage

The Alberta Gymnastics Federation (AGF) insurance policy has 3 key components that provide coverage for members engaging in AGF sanctioned activities:
  1.  Comprehensive General Liability - Member Clubs
  2.  Errors and Omissions/Directors and Officers Wrongful Acts - Board Members at Member Clubs
  3.  Sports Accident - Individual Members

Who is Insured?

'Insured Persons’ under AGF's Insurance Policy includes:

1.  All registered AGF members:

  • Athletes
  • Coaches
  • Officials
  • Employees
  • Coach Developers
  • Volunteers

2.  Non-registered AGF members when working within the scope of their duties on behalf of AGF or an AGF Member Club (e.g. Spectators and Parents).

1. Comprehensive General Liability

The cost to defend liability claims can be costly. AGF’s insurance policy will defend liability lawsuits in which an AGF member club is named. All member clubs are protected against the consequences of their negligence, alleged or otherwise, resulting in bodily injury and/or property damage to a third party. This includes litigation costs and the potential of damages awarded.

The current (July 1 – June 30) insurance program provides $5,000,000 worth of protection for litigation and settlement costs and is broken down as follows:

  • Personal and Advertising Injury Limit (Bodily Injury): $5,000,000
  • Each Occurrence Limit: $5,000,000
  • Sexual Abuse and Molestation Limit: $1,000,000
  • Errors and Omissions/Directors and Officers Wrongful Acts Limit: $2,000,000

2. Errors and Omissions Policy

A component of the AGF General Liability Policy includes Errors and Ommissions (E&O) coverage of $2,000,000 for claims made against a board member of an AGF member club for wrongful acts related to corporate governance activities while serving in their capacity as a board member.

NOTE: This policy does not provide coverage for Employment Practices Liability. It is recommended that all clubs obtain an additional Directors and Officers policy to provide defence coverage for wrongful dismissal or labour board issues.

Deductibles

  • $5,000 – each and every occurrence inclusive of supplementary payments, but
  • $50,000 – each and every occurrence inclusive of supplementary payments in respect of Bodily Injury claims and Sexual Abuse/Molestation claims

3. Sports Accident

AGF Members (excluding drop-in, birthday party and promotional activity participants) are eligible to receive reimbursement for medical expenses associated with injuries that occurred during an AGF sanctioned activity. This coverage is applied after the participant’s primary benefit package (e.g. Alberta Health Care coverage) is consumed. Costs such as immediate “out of pocket” expenses related to an injury may also be provided through this coverage (E.g. Ambulance Fees, air casts, crutches, etc.)

NOTE: Regardless of whether the individual member club is at fault, an injured participant will be indemnified by this insurance coverage for a variety of injuries if the claim is made within 365 days of the date of injury.
