Gymnastics for All

Gymnastics For All

Gymnastics For All (GFA) is the non-competitive branch of gymnastics. It makes up over 90% of the Alberta Gymnastics Federation’s membership.

Gymnastics is a sport for everyone. It provides an opportunity to challenge oneself physically, and enables one to explore various forms of movement in fun creative ways. Recreational Gymnastics provides children, as young as 18 months, and adults, of any age, to enjoy the sport. A variety of programming is offered such as: parent and tot, preschool, CANGYM, CANJUMP, youth and adult rec, as well as performance or demonstration groups. Performance and demonstration groups have the opportunity to shine locally, provincially and internationally at non-competitive events such as mall demonstrations, Gymfest and Gymnaestrada. Having fun, developing fitness and acquiring fundamental fitness skills are the goals of these programs.

Gymnastics is recognized by the Canadian Sport for Life, as one of three foundation sports integral to the development of fundamental movement skills. Fundamental movements are the building blocks to a child’s physical literacy. Just like reading or writing a child becomes fluent in movement through the development of physical literacy. The proficiency in movement skills enables children to confidently and successfully participate in a healthy and active lifestyle throughout the stages of Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model. Canadian Sport for Life

  • Canadian sport for life (CS4L) is a movement to improve the quality of sport and physical activity in Canada. CS4L links sport, education, recreation and health and aligns community, provincial and national programming.
  • The seven-stage Long Term Athlete Development model features a training, competition and recovery pathway guiding an individual’s experience in sport and physical activity from infancy through all phases of adulthood. CS4L, with LTAD, represents a shift in the way Canadians lead and deliver sport and physical activity in Canada.

Active for Life

  • Active for Life is the place where parents go to learn about activities for kids. Physical education leads to physical literacy, which is critical for child development. Physical literacy also gives active kids the best chance to someday compete in high-performance sport.
  • Kids’ activities are organized by age and gender so parents can find fun and engaging ways of making sure their children get the recommended amount of physical activities.

Be Fit for Life

  • Be Fit for Life provides services, education and resources to encourage Albertans to be physically active. Be Fit for Life is an active member of the Alberta Active Living Partners, which is a group of 14 organizations that collaborate through programs, services, research and advocacy to help Albertans be physically active.
