Requirements for Team Alberta Events

NOTE: All checks must be completed by March 1st of every year that attendance at a team event is planned, as per section 21.3.1 of AGF’s Policies and Procedures.

Requirements for Coaches, Managers & Coach Developers

The following is required of ALL Coaches, Managers and Coach Developers representing the Alberta Gymnastics Federation (AGF) at a Team Alberta event (view applicable events):

Registered AGF Member in Good Standing

Respect in Sport (RiS) Certification: 
This is a one-time training module that all AGF members are required to complete. Upon completion, you will be provided with a training certificate. Please send a copy of this certificate and its corresponding number to the AGF staff member overseeing your program.

Back/Police Check: 

This check is required every 3 years in Alberta. This check is required annually for those travelling to GymCan events. Click here for further details on GymCan event requirements.

Vulnerable Sector Check: 
This is a one-time requirement for those born before 1986. Please consult your local police department to find out how to obtain a Vulnerable Sector check, as it varies between jurisdictions. AGF can provide a volunteer letter to reduce the cost of the vulnerable sector check. To request a letter, please contact your respective AGF program staff member.

 

Child/Youth Intervention Check:

This check is valid for 3 years in Alberta. It can take up to 8 weeks for results to be processed. If you are an AGF member considering becoming a Manager or Coach for Team Alberta, it is highly recommended that you complete this check at least 2 months in advance of your trip. This check is NOT done at a police station. You must file a form online via the process below. For more information, click here.
Please complete the following digital IRC form: Intervention Record Check
You will require Adobe Acrobat Reader on your device.  Do not print or photograph the digital form – this allows the IRC process to be completely electronic. Do not change the form to Word document or use the fill and sign.
Forward your completed form along with a copy of 2 pieces of government-issued ID (as a second attachment) to the IRC unit in your region. Examples of accepted forms of ID: driver’s license, AB identification card, Treaty status card, AHC, firearms license, birth certificate, and passport.  Do not send a copy of your Social Insurance Number.

Before submitting your request, please check that you have:

  • Entered your personal information in section 1 – name, complete address, aliases, children, DOBs, etc.
  • Identified the organization & type of position you are applying for in section 2 Request for a Record Check – even if “Residing with…”
  • Typed your name and date at the bottom of sections 1 & 2 to verify the information provided is correct and to consent to having the check completed (check the box in front as well). 
  • Ensured that the completed IRC form is attached as a PDF.  No pictures or web links, please
  • Attached the copies of your ID

Incomplete requests will be returned for correction and will create delays in processing.
Please note that processing times may take up to 30 business days and will depend on the volume of requests.

 

Team Manager Application Form (Team Managers only)
Apply to become a Team Manager. Upon approval, the requirements listed above will need to be met.  

Coach Developers
In addition to the requirements listed above, Coach Developers must also:

  • Complete the “Make Ethical Decisions” evaluation: Click here and navigate to e-Learning > Make Ethical Decisions Online Evaluation. Your transcript will be updated once you’ve successfully completed the evaluation. One-time completion required. 
  • Sign the “Coach Developer Code of Conduct”:  Download form. Must be completed annually.
